Coors Light: Still Bad For You

I have so many problems with Coors Light. I can’t stand how they take a really bad beer best suited for women and people who don’t want to taste what real beer should taste like and then market it toward me as if it’s the manly way to end a day.

The stuff is really bad. I honestly don’t know why anyone enjoys drinking it when so many better options exist.

Then they had to go and release their newest ad campaign. Apparently, Coors has developed a special vented can that allows for “a smoother pour.”

That’s it. That’s the big news. You can allegedly pour their crappy beer better from a can. Never mind that you should buy beer in cans only as a last resort. I’m not a beer snob, it’s just true. Bottled beer tastes so much better. I do get cans of Bud to keep in the fridge on occasion because they are cheaper, and they can work well when you are traveling, but that’s about it.

The fact that the best thing Coors can do for its drinkers is to improve its can pretty much tells you all you need to know about their beer. Friends don’t let friends drink Coors Light, regardless of how cool their can is.

I’m female and not particularly a beer drinker but I so know what you mean. Give me the whole flavour and whole body anyday and stuff the lite stuff. Still, somebody must be drinking it?

Mind you, on the advertising to men stakes, here in the UK we have an advert for one of the lite colas being marketed to men and it is funny …. with the couple who have split up meeting in the late night store. She with her new hunk and he looking geeky and alone when along comes to life the figment of imagination of a sex bomb with the geek and wanting him and his cola etc. Very funny. Still can’t drink the lite stuff – yuck, yuck, yuck!

(Ummm seem to be rambling here …. just doing a quick (!) blogexplosion surf before my next bit of work!)

I can’t stand Coors Light either. I’d rather drink Crystal Light, if that’s any indication…

But there are some good beers in cans. For example, Sly Fox, a Pennsylvania brewery, has three beers in its canned lineup — a dunkel weizen, a weiss and a pale ale.

I just had the weiss the other night and loved it. Very dry, tart and mineral-ly, just like my favorite German versions.

But it’s unfiltered so it foams up like crazy. Best to have two glasses when you pour one.

That’s the ad where the guy leaves his girlfriend to “go vent” with his friends. Just awful. Even during my drinking heyday in the ’80’s, I always avoided Coors.

[…] No one can confirm whether this was actually the first time Pete Marino had ever sampled Coors Light. Remember, friends don’t let friends drink Coors Light. […]

I drink Coors light because it’s 104 calories per 12oz. It’s moderately priced and natural ingredients and processing. I used to drink Bud, Michelob, Heineken, and I love Stella Artois, and some of the other locally brewed fare but, Coors Light just seems to agree with me when I sit down and drink 3-6.

[…] Our nest has emptied, Boozers. As the fledgling stood uncertainly on the edge, we gave a mighty shove right between the shoulder blades, calling behind the offspring’s flapping wings: “For God’s sake, if you must drink beer, at least make it good beer!”. Because there’s really nothing sadder than social media pictures of overeager freshmen clutching cans of Coors Light. […]
