Book Review: Fleeced
Now that I have a Kindle (more on that in next week’s column), I feel like a whole new world has opened up to me. I can search all through the Amazon catalog and find obscure books which I might want to read. Or I can download a novel by the brother of a friend for just a few bucks.
That’s how I ended up making “Fleeced” by Dwain Smith my first Kindle read. We know his sister, and I had wanted to read one of his books for a while. We have one on the shelf at home, but I never got around to it. Coincidentally, he announced the release of the Kindle version of “Fleeced” the same day I ordered my device.
I really enjoyed this light-hearted treatment of the Jason and the Argonauts legend. The whole thing reminded me of “Gods Behaving Badly,” which I read two summers ago.
The notion of taking these other-worldly characters and dropping them into some sort of modern world has so many possibilities. Dwain does a great job at mixing the legend with the modern while taking some liberties with some of the original story in order to make the story just a little more exciting.
With fast-moving action, bad puns in chapter titles and a price under $5 on Kindle, this is something definitely worth a buy.
