This is How You Make a Video
One of the greatest crimes of the last 20 years is the decline of the music video. MTV has turned into a shell of itself with horrible “reality” shows designed to feed the egos of vapid youngsters eager to shock the world.
Should I have prefaced that with [cranky old man]?
Anyways, I previously mentioned the greatness of Totally 80s on VH1 Classic. This morning, I sat down to enjoy some videos and got wistful. “Always Something There to Remind Me” by Naked Eyes started off the block with Robert Palmer’s “Simply Irresistible” coming next.
I have a soft spot for that song because of something that happened at college which I will have to blog about sometime.
The fun didn’t end there, though. What could be the quintessential 80s video came on. The Producers came out of Atlanta in the early 80s. “What’s He Got” was their only real hit, but they punctuated it with this outstanding video.
Between the campy intro, the over-exaggerated facial expressions, and the bouncing keyboard player who eventually comes off his riser with the keyboard around his neck, they hit most of the key elements of a great video.
