Book Review: Kick It
I definitely don’t read enough for someone who loves to write. Each year, I say I will read more, but end up goofing off on the Internet or watching TV or actually writing instead of burying my nose in book after book.
The one time I do get my reading on is during beach week. I accomplished one of the goals I laid out before we left by reading the new book “A Few Seconds of Panic” by Wall Street Journal reporter Stefan Fatsis.
I have always like Fatsis’ work and put this book at the top of my list when I heard the premise. Fatsis spent the spring and summer of 2006 with the Denver Broncos. He didn’t just observe the team like some reporters do when they write books. He actually went through all the paces as a kicker.
These kind of inside looks at sports teams always get me interested, but this unique way of doing it made this a must-read. The way Fatsis got so many people on the team to trust him because the respected the way he tried to improve gave a special look inside an NFL team, something few people can accomplish.
So if you want to see how big a dick Todd Sauerbrun can be or why you should have rooted for Jake Plummer or why the backup offensive tackle deserves your respect for what he goes through, buy this book and give it a shot.

July 29, 2008Thats great…huge football fan here. I’ll have to check that out sometime.
And yea, Jake Plummer was the man. All the people calling for his head are crazy. He was their best shot of reaching the big game anytime soon. Christ he got them to the AFC Championship game..and got knocked off by who?? The friggin team of the decade – the Patriots. Give the guy a break! And I might add, he got the Arizona Cards into the playoffs (thats a feat in itself).
