The Rest of The Brians

The big stars have collected their trophies, but we still have some fun to take care of. Let’s take a look at some awards that might not easily come to mind, but are just as important.

Best Surprise: Paul Rudd puking all over Jon Favreau in “I Love You, Man.” Far too often, you see all the funniest parts of movies in the trailer. You even have unrated trailers on the Internet now to give you a hint about how saucy a movie really is. I saw pretty much every trailer for this film and had no idea this would happen. They really made sure they wrung every laugh out of this scene. I tried to find it online, but couldn’t.

Best Costume: I kind of alluded to it in the Best Actress award, but Adams blew me away in this flick. Sure, she’s a talented actress, but she ran around the museum in a leather jacket, tight pants and boots for the entire movie. I love when people who make movies aimed at kids add stuff in for the parents who will also see the flick.

Loudest Movie: “Public Enemies.” I enjoyed this gangster flick. I did. I also understand that they had to make the violence jarring to contrast with the slickness of John Dillinger, played deftly by Johnny Depp. But it was freaking loud. Really loud. Extra loud. Jump out of your seat loud.

Best Prequel: I respect the people who made Sherlock Holmes in that they didn’t try to hide the fact that this was just the kickoff for a franchise. You could see it coming a mile away so I appreciate them not trying to act like they didn’t think about it until after the movie succeeded.

Best Cameo by a Band: The obsession of Rush by the characters played by Rudd and Jason Segal in “I Love You, Man” provided some laughs. They could have plugged in any band and gotten some mileage out of the jokes, but the songs of Rush just took the comedy to another level. Then we get to see the band performing one of their classics while Segal and Rudd make total fools out of themselves. Classic.
